Ballot Measure — November 2026

What you'd actually
pay for trash.

Two years of inflation later — higher fuel, labor, and disposal costs across the board — the city still landed a tiered Republic Services rate schedule that beats what most households are paying today under the open-hauler system.

$10.15
Lowest tier — every-other-week, small cart
$14.40
Top tier — 96-gallon cart, weekly

Why this bid matters

Costs went up. This rate didn't follow.

Fuel, labor, and disposal (tipping) fees have all climbed over the past two years — that's the same inflationary pressure showing up in every household budget. Despite that, the city was able to negotiate a Republic Services schedule where a household can get service for as little as $10.15/month, and even the largest weekly cart tops out at $14.40/month. A tiered structure — rather than one flat number for every household — is also what let the city bring in a genuine senior/veteran discount for the first time.

$0.00
Total over 5-year term
$0.00

Contract term fixed at 5 years, the Initial Term set in the City's agreement (auto-renews in further 5-year terms unless either party opts out). Total reflects the new rate compounding at 4% each year, as allowed by the fee schedule. Your current hauler's rate is held flat in this estimate since its future increases aren't set by contract — actual savings would likely be larger if that rate also rises.

A full-season subscription is $120/year for one cart. Request a second cart at the same time you sign up and it's provided at no extra cost — so two carts still costs $120/year total.

$
5 years (the contract's fixed Initial Term)
Year 1 annual savings
$0.00
Total over 5-year term
$0.00

The $120/year base rate applies whether you request one cart or two, as long as both are requested at signup — the second cart is free in that case. If you add a second cart later, it's billed separately. Each cart's subscription covers weekly pickup of up to 5 bags; overflow bags beyond that are $3.50 each, up to a 10-bag limit per pickup. Rate compounds 4% each year across the 5-year term, same as the trash cart schedule. Your current provider's rate is held flat in this estimate.
